Gymnosperms

Gymnosperms of Northeastern Wisconsin

A great website with an interactive key that includes all of our northern Ontario conifers.

Juniperus of the World

Comprehensive information on the genus Juniperus, by Robert Adams, of Baylor University. This website includes species descriptions, synonymy, and keys to the world's junipers. North American taxonomists take note of the accepted subspecific taxa, which are updates of Volume 2 (1993) of Flora of North America.

Non-Flowering Vascular Plant Family Access Page

Another part of Dr. Gerald D. Carr's excellent website on vascular plants from the University of Hawaii; includes excellent images of Gymnosperms.

The Cycad Pages

An informative site on an ancient group of gymnosperms known to most northern Ontarians only from the few specimens available for sale in the plant sections of grocery and Canadian Tire stores. In addition to information on each cycad species, the reader can also learn about such interesting topics as cycad evolution, gardening with cycads, and the symbiotic relationship between cycad roots and cyanobacteria.

The Gymnosperm Database

The first (and last!) database any botanist should look to for information on gymnosperms. An excellent website, with a recent new face, from Christopher J. Earle. Botany students will find this site invaluable.
